A Recipe for Learning Your Letters

Ingredients
- •A dusting of flour on a flat board
- •The letters of your own name, first
- •One favourite word
- •A finger that doesn't mind getting floury
How it's done
- 1
Dust the board with flour and smooth it flat.
- 2
Draw the first letter of your name, big and slow. Say its sound as you go.
- 3
Wipe it out and do it again, smaller.
- 4
Add the next letter, then the next, until your whole name sits there in flour.
- 5
Find those same letters somewhere else in the room — on a jar, a book, a sign.
Write your name in flour, then wipe it out and write it from memory.
