A Recipe for Being Kind to Animals

Taught by Pip, corrected by Wattle, approved by Clover.

Every creature on the hill · Whenever you meet one

Ingredients

  • Quiet hands
  • One slow approach, never a rush
  • Fresh water, always
  • Space to walk away
  • A promise not to frighten the small ones

How it's done

  1. 1

Stop and look before you touch anything.

  2. 2

Crouch low and let them come to you.

  3. 3

Stroke gently, the way the fur or feathers already lie.

  4. 4

Leave water out on hot days and crumbs out on cold ones.

  5. 5

If they leave, let them. That's their answer.

Put out water for one creature today.

Nobody does it alone.
